If you haven’t already noticed, my new website quickly became my old website and we’ve made a transition to the one you are viewing now.  I’m excited how fantastic this newer new site is proving to be with the integration of my newer new blog.  I hope those of you who were “following” me are here now, feeling cozy and taken care of.

In celebration of the new site, I’d like to share my new ideas with you:

My new line: Old Turns New

When Will decided he could build me a new workbench, I needed it to be as economical as possible.  Therefore, he went to the amazing Rebuilding Center to find all of the materials he needed to build my bench (keep in mind, as you read this, that Will had never even built a table before).  Even though I have a lot of faith in him, I was skeptical on how usable this workbench would turn out to be.  Man did he prove me wrong!!  He used two old doors for the top and reclaimed lumber for the support of the MOST AMAZING WORKBENCH I could have ever dreamed up.

When he was preparing the doors to be used for the top of the bench, he removed the old door numbers.  We both looked at each other, had a clever moment of pause and he said, “you should hang onto these”.  I did.  Two months later these necklaces were born and with the addition of my curtain rod holder hoops, a new betsy & iya line is born:  Old Turns New.

I would link these to my shop, but I sold both of them almost immediately after I presented them to the world.  Luckily, I have returned to the Rebuilding Center to dig and dig and find more old, lonesome doorless door numbers.  Stay tuned for some awesome new one-of-a-kind necklaces and earrings from reclaimed material.

The Daniel Necklace

OMG!!! I’m so excited about my new product shots! I have many new items that I’ve been waiting to list because I didn’t have proper photos for them. Now I do and I want to get them in my online store ASAP! The pictures listed in this post will be direct links to the items in my online store, so shop shop shop if you wish!

Golden Olden Curtain Hoops

Little Lacy Dangly Earrings

Large Filigree Square Beauties

Today I have used the slick roads as an excuse to stay out of the studio and in the home–to rejuvenate…big sigh. My hands were really pounding from being overworked, I had to give them a day off. BUT they’ll be back at it tomorrow or I might have to fire them. New Betsy is now in full effect (though if I don’t go to bed soon, I might reverse all of the same-position-on-the-couch healing I’ve done today). Enjoy the new stuff and lookout for more…I have LOADS!

Work with what you got

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with vintage lace. The response has been …well…exactly how I felt when I finished the first pair: hot hot hot.

(insert (HUGE tangent): That phrase just reminded me of a dance I did in my adolescence to a song called, Feelin’ Hot Hot Hot. Wow. How come no one ever told me that wasn’t really okay? Making a dance to Pump up the Jam, by Technotronic was more than okay, but Feelin’ etc. etc. etc. was more than not okay. That threw me into the world of uncool quicker than the snap of my finger, which was the first choreographic gesture we used in the dance. awesome.)

It’s been so hot in fact, that I am already selling out of the first round. This means that I am running out of the vintage lace that brought me the naughty pairs in the first place. Today I’ve come up with a solution that should buy me some time. Here comes a smaller cousin to the original Normissima Lacy Racy pair that you can still find on my website (only a few left) here. I should also mention (about the originals) that after playing around for a bit, I now add a ring of silver around the bulk of this lace piece (similar to the charlotte’s grace earrings) and crisscross it at the top. I also add a load of spiraled silver to finish off and protect the hole at the top.

Again, please ignore the quality of the photos I’m posting now. I’m using the little photo hole (that sounds funny) on my little baby MAC. I’ll be investing in a better camera soon. For now, be cool ice colds.

These will be called, the Normitas itas itas. (That just made me laugh a little). Re entertainment and jewelry (previous post), thank you. Okay okay okay, check them out:

Need I say more? At Crafty Wonderland a coupla weekends back, I made a girl blush talking about how darn AWESOME she looked in them. What? It’s true. She ended up buying TWO pairs. Boo. Yah.

Look out for my lacy process.
