When is Summer coming?

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Early June: California show tour.

Oh yeah.  OOOOOh yeah. Weeeeeeeell, well, well.  I think we were playing hide and go seek with Summer.  It found a really great–amazingly clever–hiding space.  I went off looking and got so distracted by other things (like opening a shop, maintaining and gaining wholesale accounts, and driving to and from shows/events in Seattle, SF, LA, and Chicago) …I forgot to actually go and find it.

Mid June: New shop design shopping. Wow, what a task.

So…Summer got bored and left to play with Fall.  And then Fall killed Summer.

Late June: Fill the biggest order of my life.

Okay, not really.  Maybe Fall just tucked Summer in for its yearly hibernation.  But the thing is, summer is gone now and it’s time for me to be okay with that.  And come to grips with the fact that I’ve just experienced the craziest Summer of my life.

Early August: Big sis gets hitched and I wear my favorite summer jewelry.

Here we are in…OCTOBER… and I’m trying to be here. Now, with the Fall.

I find comfort in this blog and I hope to be snuggling up to in the next few weeks.  In the meantime, please know that I’ve missed you guys.

Early September: Snuggling with Gingham. (This one sort of sums it all up.)

Stories of how time flew by are most definitely waiting behind the curtain for their cues.  I shall be calling them onstage very very soon.

Gorging Chocolate.

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Yesterday, we went to Cacao with our out of town friend.  This is one of the perks of hosting out of town visitors: discovering new gems together.  It’s like going panning for gold together in your back yard and discovering a huge vein of the stuff that you get to revisit whenever you fancy.  And poor, poor friend; they’re on a plane back home to a place with no gold.

And in our case yesterday: no drinking chocolate for poor, poor Helga.  Good news for us, though, because Cacao is AMAZING and basically in our own backyard.  We all walked in feeling kind of tired.  Even though the days are getting longer, 5:20 is still right early for the sky to be dark.  We walked out buzzing, overdosed on spicy drinking chocolate.

One shot of this thick, heavenly, mouth-coating, chocolate blessing ($2) is plenty for any appetite.  A standard size (what B and I ordered) is basically a Mike Tyson in liquid form.  A delicious Mike Tyson.

Folks, we’ll share our goldmine with you.  There’s more than enough to go around.

You Slacker.

Friday, December 17th, 2010

If you’re anything like us, you haven’t done ANY Christmas shopping.  None.  If you’re a lot like us, you’ve also been working 12-14 hour days, so you don’t feel particularly beat up about it either.  But guys: Christmas is breathing down your neck.  Can you feel the chill?  Why not kill a few birds with one stone tonight?  Allow me to enumerate the birds:

1. jewelry
2. complementary booze
3. free gift wrapping
4. avoiding wandering aimlessly around the mall on 12/24 in a cold sweat.
5. making at least one special lady in your life very, VERY happy.

This evening, stop by Uncommon Jewels, where yours truly and six other high-profile Portland jewelry designers (Alisha Louise, Amy Bengtson, grayling, Lauren Harkness, Sahlia, and stone + honey) will push your gifting across the goal line.  The deets:
