Where were we? Ahhh, yes! Nashville. So we drove 9 hours, met with Two Elle, and then had our first celebration dinner of the trip. What is a celebration dinner?? Basically, it’s one we cannot afford. No no, we can afford it, it’s just that we should probably be eating out of the cooler. No, no, we shouldn’t be doing that, but we shouldn’t be using italics quite so much, am I right?
So we ate at the Germantown Cafe. Had a martini and a glass of wine. Ordered apps, dessert, and an after-dinner drink. AND dinner. That’s why it’s a celebration dinner. Sometimes when you sit in a car all day, you work up an appetite.
And then we slept. And when we woke up, we had our first day with no appointments, so we drove around town, got the lay of the land as far as shopping districts go, saw some RIDICULOUSLY huge houses near Franklin, TN (houses that were actually BIGGER than the big church down the road), sought out a good cup of coffee, and spent the night in with take-out thai (sad moment when we realized we weren’t in Portland anymore, Toto, where good thai grows on trees) and the Bachelor. And this, folks, is why we call these trips vacusiness (pronouced vay-CIZ-ness).
And guess what: the ONLY picture we have to show for all of that is this one. A little Nashvillian coffee shop that was accidentally shipped the wrong sign.

Whoops!

From Savannah, we headed to Nashville. This was our first big day of driving: 9 hours of straight up road fun. You might think there’s not much else you could do in a day besides drive 9 hours, and you’re almost right. But actually, we managed to cram in a very wonderful meeting in a very cute shop with a very cute proprietress. Ladies and gentlemen: meet Two Elle.

Two Elle is owned by the lovely and SOOOO friendly Rachel, above left with stylist Becca. Named after the second year of law school (incidentally, the year Rachel and Vanderbilt parted ways (and we’re happy they did!)), this is a really special shop. It’s Nashville, so naturally, there’s a piano and a stage in the corner for bands.

The counter was custom built by friends of Rachel. The back wall is covered in Two Elle print ads and graffiti. Look for bold, fashion forward betsy & iya jewelry here soon!

The whole car incident set us back one day, so we didn’t get as much time as we would have liked in Charleston and Savannah. We started the one full day off in Charleston with cereal, a good friend’s hospitality, and a screened in back porch (one of the biggest things I miss about growing up in the south); and we ended the day in Savannah at a new friend’s store + house combo. I died and went to heaven in this place.

There, we fell in love with weeping willows, spring humidity, southern hospitality, and Custard.

This is another big little boutique that blew my mind. We had a blast with its owner, Tara, and I pretty much feel like we walked out with a new friend. I think we spent over 5 hours in her sensational shop. She even had us upstairs where she made us a drink and showed us her gorgeous home. We stood on her balcony and talked about things that had nothing to do with why we came there. I love that.

Suffice it to say, I am crazy excited to send a first order to Custard. Tara was especially into the new betsy & iya Origins line.
We heart Savannah.
