What the Pop?

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

My name is Louise, a great friend of betsy’s, and I’m also hijacking her blog until she gets her butt back in gear on here.  This weekend I’m hosting an amazing DIY music video festival and y’all should come!!

wtp-posterWhat The Pop! Is a DIY music video festival, based in the heart of Humboldt County, CA. The one day festival will showcase the little music and video gems that wither away unappreciated whether on Youtube or in a shoebox under your bed—the song that was recorded in the wee hours of the morning on a 4-track in a bedroom, or that a band pieced together on their computer in the garage, the video that some kids shot last summer on their mums camera, or some band filmed in the streets of themselves dancing in giant papier-mâché animal heads—this is the venue for them.

We have a panel of judges who will pick videos for each of the many diverse categories–the winners will be presented with a stunning lo-fi, DIY prize on the night of the festival. Bands will play, videos will be on a big screen, and delicious food and drinks will be on sale, all for one night only at the Arcata Playhouse, Arcata, CA. July 11th 2009.

Tickets for What The Pop! Music Video Festival are available at the door or you may reserve them by emailing us at whatthepop@gmail.com. $10 General, $8 Students, $5 small kids.

There is still time to enter a video in What The Pop!, just email whatthepop@gmail.com and we will send you an entry form. It’s free to enter.

The regulations are…the music in your video must be an original recording, not a cover and we’ll need a copy of the music video in DVD format. That’s it! Just send us your DVD and completed application form and you are in the festival. The clock is ticking though, What The Pop! is on July 11th, so we need those videos ASAP! Any questions just drop us an email.

Visit us at www.myspace.com/whatthepopmusicvideofestival for more information.

Psst….

lupeyellow(don’t I have a cute outfit on too!!  It’s all thrift store finds with a minnie mouse feel!)

Hi lovelies! It’s me, Lupe, the assistant extraordinaire. I am commandeering the blog while Betsy is in New York. Since she’s off having fun without us, I’ve decided there’s only one thing to do…have a party! That’s right, I’m throwing a “Boss-is-out-of-town” party. Okay, so the name is a little cumbersome, but you get the idea.

I’ll be opening the shop on Thursday night (July 2nd) from 5-9 pm. There will be wine, snacks, music, and best of all……15% percent off everything in the store!! I’m inviting all my girlfriends (and some fabulous boy friends as well). So come join us and bring your friends, I’d love to meet you all!

We’re located at 1722 NW Raleigh St., Suite 104. (Right on 17th, between Quimby and Raleigh)

(btw, Betsy has been more busy than anticipated and regrets that she’s neglected this here blog for the last week; she plans to resume dedicated blog activity within the week, so STAY TUNED!)

GIVEAWAY: Meet me in NYC!!!!

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009
betsyfrontbw(Yup, that’s me!  Jasmine Photography took this sweet shot.  Thanks Alexis!!)

Meet me at Shecky’s Girls Night Out!  I’ve got a pair of free tickets that will get you through the door!  Who wants them!?!  I’ll be there all 5 days (June 23-June 27).  (Just leave a comment after this post and I’ll select a winner at random next Wednesday, June 17th…can’t wait to meet you!!)  …okay, it’s (btw, just accidentally wrote “tit’s” and it really made me giggle) decided— this entire post is going to be emphatic!!!

HANDMADE IN PORTLAND AT SHECKY’S NYC!!!:

sheckyshotpicks(betsy & iya as featured in Shecky’s hot picks for the NYC Summer 2009 event!  The Coin Goddess Necklace is featured above… with the massive black arrow pointing to it.)

This will be my first Shecky’s event and I’m trying to spread the word that handmade designers/artists like me will also be vendors there.  I like selling at events like this precisely because an audience that is not typically exposed to handmade might, for once, get a great taste of it.  I think there will be many awesome items to choose from and if people know about the handmade dudes, like me—it becomes all the more exciting.  It’s a tangible face-to-face sense of design, hardwork and community.  Also, those of you who read here from far off lands (slash: NYC or Philly)—we could meet!!  I’m bringing ALL of my jewelry plus loads and loads of new designs that I’ve yet to list in my online store!

This coin goddess necklace will be on sale—(special for Shecky’s customers $10 off):

Okay, so if you wanna meet me in NYC, come to Shecky’s Girls Night Out, any night June 23rd-27th…FREE BOOZE, btw!  If you want to get in for free…COMMENT BELOW, you just might win!!

Again, consider coming to support those handmade designers who come (making the trek ALL the way from beautiful Portland, OR…ahem) from faraway to showoff and sell their wares made by their own two hands.
