Outfit of the Day: Orange Betsius

Orange Betsius

Orange Betsius

In all its ridiculousness, I kind of really love this get up.  This is another drooly (good thing)  pick from the Bargain Hunting local-store clearance show I attended at the top of February.  I saw this number and immediately fell in love.  It comes from another new favorite local designer and her flagship store: Idom.  Modi Soondarotok is the name behind the happy color designs.  She was at the crazy show herself and I was immediately taken by her genuine, down to earth awesomeness.  The price tag on this dress floored me.  Marked down to $30, it had been $235.  I DEFINITELY felt lucky to find this gal, her awesome store, and her beautiful designs.  Thank you, Susan, for making sure I wouldn’t miss this gem.

Jailybird? Maybe.

Jailybird? Maybe. (look at those eyes...)

Though a little bit like a girl on the run in a fashionable prison jumpsuit; I mostly just stunned people with my sassy brightness in this one.  This is why I jazzed it up with a large and in charge black patent leather belt with itty bitty white polka dots pushing through.  On top of that I wore my mother’s scarf as mentioned in a previous OOTD, which complemented the brown frye boots (yes, I’m obsessed) and the orange in the dress.  I also added textured charcoal (ish) tights.  I really think you can’t go wrong with wild socks and tights.  My favorite place for things that go under your skirts and into your boots: Sock Dreams on Powell.

Lastly, the jewels.

The chainy wonder

One of my first designs.  This one reminds me of something a royal woman would wear—BUT a free royal woman…like one who wouldn’t wear a shirt with it…and with lots of colors, she would dance.

On the ears:

I wore these in teal to offset the softly wild orange.  Here are the colors to choose from:

These pictures are direct links to my online shop.  These colorful wisies will be GREAT for spring (or any time you need a wise one near your ears).  Please specify the color you want in the message-to-seller section when checking out.

Here is me in the studio getting ready to fill orders.  kissy poo!

Unfortunately, the following picture is not a direct link to purchase.  I am not for sale:

Wow, I look so serious in this photo.  I hope I’m gonna be okay.

Outfit of the Day: Embracing the Fluff.

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Sunday I participated in the most ridiculous fashion event I’ve ever been to:  BARGAIN HUNTING 101 (a PDX local collective sale).  Though this time, I was on the shopping side of things —SHWEW!!  It was NASTY in there.  The moment I found a great little open pocket, a swarm of women with shopping bags instead of hands would crowd around me, salivating and grunting with a blatant Frankenstein stare– wanting the very shirt I held in my hands.  I would’ve been eaten alive with my sweet little handmades.  Luckily I held my own long enough to escape with some KILLER new finds which will be highlighted very soon in my upcoming OOTDs.

Before I set foot in that monster of a sale, I HAD to be armed with coffee.  I looked a little disheveled, similar to the picture above.  So…I set out with some top ladies over to Whole Foods and ran to the coffee counter.  There, I discovered a woman working behind the counter, who inspired me greatly.  She had short curly hair, much like the lady below, but even more curly and much more wily:

I asked her to disclose her wild curly secret.  She said the secret was that there was no secret.  She gave up years ago on her muddy dirty wiry kinky  journey for the perfect curl.  That’s precisely when she found bouncy bliss.  She does nothing.  So…today’s OOTD is in honor of her: embracing the fluff.  Check it:

Scarf purchased at bargain price from new favorite store/designer Idom…more from them to follow.  Yahooey!  The sexy jacket was purchased in Sweden; when I first bought it, I wore it everyday.  It was a little too small for me at the time—oops.

This sweet tweet shirt came from another new store (to me) called Adorn.  Yummy: another new local store to fall in love with.  In this photo, I swear I’m not trying to poke my heehaws out in a provocative way, I just want you to get a good look at the colorful hooter.  I really do like this shirt and it’s incredibly comfortable–highly recommend their stuffs.

Yeah.  I really like being careless with the hair–pushing it up and out ON PURPOSE is wildly liberating.  I felt like a nude hippy running through the flowery fields yesterday, alone.  It was magical.

Embrace the Fluff, people.  There is no better way for us kinky-haired folkadees.

Yesterday’s Outfit of the Day: Thriller.

Friday, January 30th, 2009

I cannot get enough of the ridiculous choices of the 80s.  Here I have taken a perfectly good Forever 21 turtleneck sweater dress, cut out the high neck (sometimes I have nonchalant panic attacks when these things are snuggling my neck; you might think I’m fine, but I’m going bonkers inside), then I cut and ripped down the center, tried it on and ripped some more until I was satisfied:

I'll thriller you.

I'll thriller you.

another awesome scarf from Sloan Boutique on the fancy 23rd.  friend exchange racer back weird see-through black thingy tank top (this adds spice to SO many boring things in my closet).  red corduroys…duh.

The simple gray undershirt with the cute white buttons was perfect for this outfit.  Keep lots of simple undershirts in your drawers–they go a long way.  I’m a huge fan of layering and accessorizing; you can still support local stores without having to spend a ton of money—you’ll look different and spice up your old garb!

Thanks, Jen.  Today it looks like a combination of these:

And a little bit of this:

“Business in the front, party in the back.”

Um…yeah.

I’ll leave you with that.
